Liberty Gold Double Eagles
The Liberty Gold Double Eagle is an American $20 Gold coin originally struck in 1849 as a pattern coin before being placed into circulation from 1850 to 1907. The Gold coin was an immediate success and continued to be struck until Saint-Gaudens’ Gold Double Eagle was designed and produced in 1907. Many of the Liberty Gold Double Eagles were melted down in President Roosevelt’s Executive Order 6102 in 1933 that outlawed the private ownership of Gold. Due to Executive Order 6102, any remaining Liberty Gold Double Eagles are great pieces of history and make a good addition to any historical collection.
