Disappointed

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

This was the first item purchased that the stated condition did not match the coin that was received. As part of a "at spot" deal it is still a fine value but a large mark over the face of the coin is not something I think should be classified as bu.

  • Cons

Gorgeous

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

These coins are so beautiful, they are regal and artistic. Plus they have more gold, a fineness of 0.900, weight of 0.9802 troy ounces (30.5 grams) of pure gold, more than the American Pre1933 1oz gold coins. I've received several of these and each one in mint condition. Remarkable for an older coin.

The Austrian GOLD 100 Corona (restrike) should be called the European $20 Gold Piece!

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

It should be known as the European $20 dollar gold piece. Why? Look at the facts and not just the beautiful designs of each. The U.S. $20 gold piece was originally minted to have .9675 percent of a Troy ounce of gold. While the Austrian 100 Corona has .9860 percent of a Troy ounce of gold. The better news is the Austrian 100 Corona does NOT have a high premium over spot per coin like a U.S. $20 gold piece does. If you are buying gold coins for the actual weight in GOLD each coin contains? Then the Austrian 100 Corona (restrike) is the better economic value. We all know they haven’t produced $20 gold pieces since 1933. (Really 1932, but, that’s another story for another day.) The bottom line is this important point: If you needed or wanted to exchange a real gold coin for real goods and services, The Austrian 100 Corona (restrike) would be my first choice. You have more gold to barter with. compare the difference for yourself. You get 0.0185 percent more gold in the 100 Corona than in a U.S. $20 gold piece. Some gold coins I collect and hold, while others I buy to stack them incase SHTF. As a practical man, this is why I call the Austrian 100 Corona the “European $20 Gold Piece”. If I ever need to buy something in a time of crisis, then he who owns the gold writes the terms of the contract.

Stunning

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

This coin dominates my collection. Its large diameter, yet not overly thin feels hefty in your hand. The guy on the face isn’t the prettiest man on the block, but the double headed dragon on the reverse kills! Love the writing in the rim. I collect coins from around the world, this is by far my favorite. I bought one, and as soon as i could afford it, i bought another. I will absolutely looking for more.

A big, impressive coin with good luster

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

I bought one of these for the first time a few weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprised by what a nice-looking and large coin it is, when you see it close up. Although its gold content of .9802 oz is only a very little above the .9675 oz. of a double eagle, this coin is noticeably larger. The luster is very brilliant. The premium is one of the lowest around. I would buy another, of the alternate Hungarian design next time, for variety.
