Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Gold Double Eagle design is regarded as one of the most beautiful designs in American coinage history. It was minted from 1907-1933 and paid tribute to Liberty on the obverse and an American bald eagle in flight on the reverse. Augustus Saint-Gaudens (1848-1907) was an American sculptor who designed the $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle, which is considered by many to be the most beautiful coin ever minted. The coin was minted from 1907-1933 and featured Lady Liberty on the obverse and an American bald eagle in flight on the reverse.
