  • Product Details

Only 6,931 proof sets for the year 1978 were minted by the Franklin Mint! With the exception of the $2 coin, which had a mintage of 11,000, mintages for every other coin in the set is 6,931. The 50 cent, $1, $2, and $5 are of Silver and have a combined Silver weight of 2.8723 ounces. The designs of the coins in this set are truly attractive:

The brass one cent, KM#59, has an excellent rendition of a starfish.

The copper nickel 5 cent, KM#60, shows a luscious pineapple.

The copper nickel 10 cent, KM#61, shows a pair of bone fish. The unusual scalloped shape planchet makes this coin almost appear to be a platter for the fish.

The copper nickel 15 cent, KM#62, depicts a tropical hibiscus. Two things of note with this coin is the unusual diamond shape of the planchet, as well as the unusual denomination amount.

The nickel 25 cent, KM#63.1, has a nice rendition of a Bahaman Sloop asea.

The Silver 50 cent, KM#64a, has a gloriously executed scene of a Blue Marlin leaping out of the sea, against a background of stylized waves. This coin contains .2667 of an ounce of Silver.

The Silver dollar, KM#65a, shows a conch shell on the vertical. This coin contains .4666 ounces of Silver.

The Silver two dollar coin, KM#66a, has one of the most romantic coin designs in the series. Appearing on this coin is a pair of the flamingos, with a setting sun over the water in the background. This coin contains .8863 ounces of Silver.

The Silver five dollar, KM#67a, contains 1.2527 ounces of Silver. The flag of the Bahamas appear on this coin.

All coins in this set bear the national arms. Your 1978 proof set comes with the original certificate of authenticity. The coins come in the original case of issue, and are themselves in the original cardboard and plastic sleeve.
