As the second series of small-size Federal Reserve Notes, the 1928-A issue introduced the familiar Green Treasury Seal that has remained a hallmark of U.S. currency ever since. Add this great collector’s item to your cart today!
The 1928 and 1928-A Federal Reserve Notes occupy a unique place in American monetary history. These early small-size notes bear the redemption promise, "Redeemable in Gold on Demand at the United States Treasury, or in Gold or Lawful Money at any Federal Reserve Bank." This reflected their status during the nation's gold-backed monetary system. Following the gold policies enacted during the Great Depression, this redemption privilege was discontinued, and no subsequent Federal Reserve Note has carried this gold redemption wording. Today, these notes stand as fascinating relics of the final era when U.S. paper money was directly linked to gold. - Specifications
