Meh......stick with AU over type 2 AU(as far as showing off the coin).....big difference in looks and for the 46 dollar difference,i'll take the more expensive AU. I ordered 2 of these coins(1866-1876 random year) and the AU looks uncirculated and shiny like new. The type 2 AU looks dirty, dingy and very worn. I'll pay the extra and will always buy AU from now on.
- Cons
- Poor Condition
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

At only a small premium compared with freshly minted Eagles, why not own some old gold from the gold rush era, having survived confiscation and the big melt in the 30's, still in AU condition. Am very pleased with these.
- Pros
- Value (low premium over spot)
- Attractive Design
- Recognized Brand
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

We purchased this beautiful coin, as we all enjoy history so much, especially the Civil War era. My Great grandfather fought in the Civil War and my grandfather was born in 1870, so he would have been very familiar with this 1874 gold coin!

- Value (low premium over spot)
- Collectible (lower mintage)
- Attractive Design
- Recognized Brand
- Bottom Line

I received an 1873 gold liberty double eagle (no mint mark), it had the expected bag marks, but this coin has lots & lots of the original lustre, I cannot detect ANY trace of wear, appears to be a completely uncirculated coin. I will get it slabbed, am optimistic to get a grade AU high 50's, perhpas higher, will report back.
