This Silver medal contains .707 oz of fine Silver. Mexico struck these Silver medals in 1962 to commemorate the centennial of the Battle of Puebla. This victory of the Mexican forces over the occupying French on May 5, 1862, is celebrated annually as Cinco de Mayo. The obverse design shows a Mexican officer (possibly Gen. Ignacio Zaragoza) mounted on horseback and advancing on a fort in the distance. The reverse shows the Mexican coat of arms. This is a nicely designed coin. - Specifications
