    Golden Opportunity
In the early 2000s, pre-1933 gold coins commanded exceptionally high premiums, often exceeding 200% above spot gold prices. These premiums were driven by strong collector demand, limited availability, and general enthusiasm for historic gold coins. Now is a rare opportunity to own Pre-33 $20 gold pieces at nearly decade-low premiums—levels we have not seen since 2018. These historic U.S. gold coins not only offer strong intrinsic value but currently trade at premiums equal to or even lower than modern 1 oz Gold Eagles. With similar gold content and added historical significance, Pre-33 $20 gold coins deliver exceptional value for collectors and investors alike.content and added historical significance, Pre-33 $20 gold coins deliver exceptional value for collectors and investors alike.

    Pre-1933 Gold
The U.S. Mint issued its first gold coins in 1795. During the height of the Great Depression in 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt prohibited American citizens from holding monetary gold. He ordered all gold coins be returned to the U.S. Treasury, where millions were melted into gold and then cast into gold bars. This was an unprecedented legislative act to help fight the Great Depression. By doing so, many collectible gold coins were affected and the course of history for monetary gold was changed forever.

These federal government recalls and meltdowns made these previously common gold coins very rare. Today, the surviving Pre-1933 Gold U.S. coins are fixed at an extremely limited supply. This fact has made Pre-1933 Gold coins some of the most desirable items among collectors and investors. APMEX is proud to offer a superb selection of these harder-to-find classic coins. The historical significance of these coins are vitally important and will provide diversity and significance to any investment or collection.

    $20 Gold Coin Design
Several changes were made to the $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle design during the years the series was in production. The coins issued from 1907-1908 do not include the motto "In God We Trust," which wasn't added until later. In 1912, the number of stars surrounding Lady Liberty on the obverse changed from 46 to 48 when New Mexico and Arizona became states.

I’ve wanted a St. Gaudens $20 since I was 10 years old. It took about 60 years. Figured, since it wasn’t going to be a passing fancy, I should get one. This wasn’t intended to be an investment. I just wanted the most beautiful coin ever minted.

Beautiful

Been wanting a Double Eagle for a while, got a stunning 1908 No Motto, about what I was expecting. The pictures do not do this coin justice, the luster in person is amazing. I'm not an expert on grading coins, but the example I received had good striking and very few scratches. A wonderful addition to any coin collection, I'll definitely be purchasing another.

  • Collectible (lower mintage)

Paper gold & silver are down but, as you've noticed, with the current premiums over spot everywhere, bullion isn't down nearly as much as paper spot. As for these $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle - MS-65 PCGS I bought when gold was $1,500 per oz. and today with spot gold at $1,350 these coins still sell for more than I paid for them.... not to mention they are beautiful. Could it be that people are expressing their distrust in paper gold & silver? Are investors moving out of paper into the real thing?

  • Bottom Line
  • Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
