1911-D Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle MS-65 PCGS
Augustus Saint-Gaudens was commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt in early 1905 to create a new design for the Gold Double Eagle, which had been minted since 1849. Saint-Gaudens' design is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful ever to grace an American coin.

Unfortunately, Saint-Gaudens passed away in August 1907 before the design could be completed. Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, Charles E. Barber, was tasked with making some modifications to the original sketches and putting the design into production.

The result was a stunning coin that is highly sought after by collectors and investors today. The Gold Double Eagle was minted from 1907 until 1933 when President Franklin Roosevelt recalled all Gold Coins from circulation because of the Great Depression. These rare surviving coins are highly prized by collectors today.
