1911-D $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle MS-65 NGC
The 1911 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle is deemed to be one of the most magnificent coins in American history. The design on the obverse was left almost completely up to sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens before his death in 1907. While designing the coin, Saint-Gaudens intended for these coins to pay homage to both American liberty and craftsmanship. As he did not live long enough to see his vision come into fruition, Saint-Gaudens assistant Fred Hoadley did much of the work that remained, and the coins were finally released to the public in 1911. - Specifications
