    • This denomination was one of four, along with the $1.00, $10 and $20 to be used for this purpose during the war.
    • Housed in an inert mylar PMG currency holder.
    • Graded Very Fine 25 by PMG.
    • Julian/Morganthau signatures—Friedberg #2301m.
    • Face: Printed in the early 1940s and features a brown seal and serial numbers along with the familiar portrait of President Abraham Lincoln.
    • Back: A large “HAWAII” over stamp in block letters across the middle.

These series 1934 $5 Federal Reserve Notes with the "HAWAII" overprint are very popular with collectors, and this one will please any serious paper money collector. Add this great collector’s item to your cart today!

“Mule” notes are created when the Bureau of Engraving and Printing pairs mismatched face and back plates—often from different series—resulting in a collectible production variety that is typically scarcer than standard issues. Hawaii overprint notes, like the Series 1934-A issues, were produced during World War II as an emergency measure; the bold “HAWAII” marking allowed U.S. currency in the islands to be quickly identified and demonetized in the event of a Japanese invasion, protecting the mainland economy.
