The series 1928 $5 notes were the last Federal Reserve Notes to be printed with the numeral in the Federal Reserve seal. The following series 1928-B's were printed using the corresponding letter (G=7), as used currently. These issues saw much use during the Great Depression, so these notes saw heavy circulation.
The 1928 Series Federal Reserve Notes are a fascinating piece of history for collectors. These notes were among the first small-size U.S. currencies, introduced to replace larger notes as part of a cost-saving redesign. They often feature the "Redeemable in Gold" clause, a reminder of the U.S. gold standard era, making them significant relics of economic history. Their intricate designs, including unique red or green Treasury seals depending on the type, reflect the artistry of early 20th-century engraving. Collecting these notes offers a tangible connection to the past, allowing enthusiasts to explore the financial and cultural shifts of the Great Depression and beyond. - Specifications
