Among the most breathtaking pieces of currency ever produced by the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the 1901 $10 United States Note has captivated collectors for generations. The commanding bison at the center is widely believed to be "Black Diamond," a celebrated American bison who called the Central Park Zoo home and became the unlikely muse for one of history's greatest banknote engravings. To his left and right stand Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, the bold leaders of the Corps of Discovery, sent westward by President Thomas Jefferson in 1804 to chart the vast and uncharted Louisiana Purchase territory. Their two-year journey to the Pacific and back cracked open the American West and wrote one of the most thrilling chapters in the story of this nation.
