These rolls are a great way to add Silver to any investment portfolio. Add several $5 Face-Value Rolls of 90% Silver Mercury Dimes to your cart today!

Pre-1965 90% Silver coins, sometimes referred to as junk Silver or scrap Silver, are a great way to start your Silver investments. These Silver coins were pulled from circulation with the introduction of copper/nickel clad coins and the rising demand of Silver. The public saved them for their 90% Silver content as a rainy day fund they can fall back on.

The coins did not meet my expectations

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

The Mercury dimes were very attractive but I got only a 39 dime and the rest were in the 40s and in the extremely high mintage. I did not believe they were worth what I paid for them. This is the 1st time I have been disappointed in APMEX.

Impressed

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

I was impressed by the quality on these. They were all excellent. There were not a huge variety of dates, 1935 was the oldest, a little variety of mint marks and 1944 and 1945 predominated but all in all I was happy with it.

  • Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

Mostly as Expected with Prompt Shipment

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

Ordered one roll of AU's asking that they be checked prior to shipment. Upon receipt, one of the coins on the very outside of the roll was clearly an average circulated piece. Shipping costs would exceed the value of the replacement coin. I inspected the rest of the roll, and most coins were 1940's with several 1935 to 39. I found just one other dime that showed clear circulation wear. The other 48 dimes in the roll did not evidence tarnish or heavy soil. A few with scratches, but mostly just normal contact marks as would be expected with counting machines or in the bags when minted. About a half dozen of the dimes were very nice AU's with more luster. The balance would be closer to an AU-50. (While PGCS grading would not be used for such common pieces in this grade, it is likely they might question an AU-50 grade on a few of the pieces as well.) I plan to consult with Customer Service on the two dimes that were clearly not AU. To return the entire roll for just two coins would mean getting a replacement roll that might not be as acceptable as the one already shipped.

Nice Coins

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

Part of a larger order these arrived in only two days. The Mercury is one of my all-time favorite coins as a collector. The roll was better than advertised with a large number of coins that were high AU (55 & 58) plus some that were BU. A nice variety of dates and mint marks too although all common dates. Only one clunker (a 1939; VF-30 maybe) more than compensated with by the quality and variety of the rest of the roll. I've already placed another order for two rolls and can't wait to see what's coming.

over graded

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

Second order. First was much higher quality. Nice mix of dates and mint marks, four in the 30s. About a third were one or two grades worse than advertised, including several with black smudges or residue on the coins. I expected better quality, not sure if I will order again.

Most were cleaned...

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

Let me start by saying I am not a professional grader. I've been collecting silver for a long time, and my coin grading is definitely conservative. I bought an AU roll not long ago, and wrote a review that contained pictures of all of the cleaned dimes (18 of them). I still have that roll in a plastic tube, and I checked them out. Out of the 50 dimes, 18 were blatantly cleaned, thus making them worthless. Twenty were along the lines of AU but many had thick layers of yellow tarnish. The remaining 11 were legit AU. Beauties. Dates were all late 30s-45, P, D and S mint marks. The one thing I've come to realize is that you never know what you're going to get. One time I buy a roll of BU quarters and they are all BU with 10 early 1950s with S mint marks, and another time I'll get a roll full of tarnished 1964s. It all depends on Apmex's stock. I could have pressed the issue, but again, sometimes I am blown away, so it all evens out. I think it's really great that Apmex sells AU Mercury dime rolls, but I just wish there was more consistency. I wouldn't mind paying an extra $40 for guaranteed AU dimes.

overall, a good purchase

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

My Liberty head dimes arrived on time and i was surprised and happy to see that apmex included the plastic tube that i had requested instead of the paper roll. Now on to the review, i inspected my roll and found that most of the dimes were in AU condition except for a few which had significant dirt and were worn. In my opinion, it isn't worth the hassle to return a whole roll just because a few did not meet the AU grade but nonetheless it is a little disappointing when not all of your dimes are in the condition you purchased them for. The good side though is that i received 3 that were from 1939 including one that was from the San Francisco mint!!
