$1 US gold coin. This was the first disappointment I have experienced with the coins I have purchased from APMEX. It was advertised as AU, but it had grime on the reverse and a major scratch on the obverse.

- Attractive Design
- Cons
- Poor Condition
- Bottom Line
- No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I purchased two of these. Both coins looked great, one was a fairly key date. Since both looked high AU or low MS I sent both to PCGS. One came back AU55 which I was pleased with, other came back as 'Cleaned'... I still give 4 stars because the 1st coin was solid (reason I went back for a second), and also because the value difference between a cleaned AU and normal AU is minor for this particular coin.
- Pros
- Collectible (lower mintage)
- Easy to Sell
- Cons
- Poor Condition
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

I always wanted a type I U.S. gold dollar because it is a real piece of history. The one dollar gold coins only had a short run so there weren't too many produced. The 1852 coin came on an AU graded PCGS slab which was a nice surprise. I was only expecting a loose coin. Nice coin, good price and fast delivery as always from APMEX.
- Pros
- Recognized Brand
- Attractive Design
- Collectible (lower mintage)
- Piece Of History
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

- Pros
- Mint Condition
- Attractive Design
- Collectible (lower mintage)
- Value (low premium over spot)
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
