These 40% silver dollars were struck soon after the passing of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. In honor of Eisenhower's legacy, President Richard Nixon signed legislation that authorized the production of the first "Ike" Dollars, to be released in 1971.
Coin Highlights:
- Contains .3161 oz of Silver.
- Multiples of 20 are packaged in protective plastic tubes. All other coins will be in protective packaging. Coins may or may not come in original mint packaging.
- Obverse: Features a striking profile of General/President Dwight David Eisenhower facing left with the legend of “LIBERTY” above his head. Underneath his chin is the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” with the date at the base of his profile. Mint mark appears below Eisenhower’s neck above the third and fourth number in the date.
- Reverse: Reflects the design of the Apollo XI’s insignia. Depicted is an eagle flying over the surface of the moon with an olive branch firmly grasped in his claws with a small Earth turned so that North America can be seen. Thirteen stars surround the eagle’s flight. The legend at the top displays “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” with the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” directly underneath, and the denomination of “ONE DOLLAR” at the bottom.

Orederd 10 of these big palooka's received 2 MS65, 2 MS64's, 5 MS63's, and one proof PF64. All were 1971 S and attractive coins except one of the 63's had a thumbprint on Ike's head along with dark toning. I am satisfied with the lot and will buy 30 more for my collection. The 2 MS65's were very nice for price I paid.

One reviewer commented that they rec'd all 1971 coins. If you are a novice, like myself, it takes time to do research. San Francisco minted only silver coins in 1971-1972 according to my research. Therefore, there is no question as to the authenticity of the silver content in 1971-1972 coins. Thereafter, S minted some clad coins as well. I rec'd 3-1971, 1- 1972, & 1 1974. Also, rec'd 1 coin with gross black mark, but I'll keep it. No complaints.
- Pros
- Mint Condition
- Recognized Brand
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

I’ve collected Ike (nickel/copper) dollars when I was in high school, especially the Bicentennials. This is the first time I collected 40% silver Ike’s. I’ve placed two orders of Ike’s (one of three coins the other of five) which came in the mail within five days. My disappointment is, when I requested random years, every coin I received was dated 1971.
- Pros
- Value (low premium over spot)
- Attractive Design
- Collectible (lower mintage)
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
