THe obverse features the Raphael Maklouf likeness of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II . The reverse features a rock breaching the ocean as people young and old strive to get on top alongside a tiger carrying its cub and other animals, based on Gustave Doré's original artwork.

What are Rimless Coins?

Rimless coins are coins without a raised edge or rim. Most coins have rims, which serve several purposes:

• They make the coins easier to stack.
• They protect the coin's design from wear.
• They help ensure the coins feed correctly in coin-operated machines.

The U.S. Mint uses a process called "upsetting" to create the rim on a coin. The blank coins, or "planchets," are run through an upsetting mill that raises the rim on the edge of the coin before the design is struck onto the coin.

Rimless coins are less common and are usually made for special purposes or collections. They might be chosen for aesthetic reasons or to make a coin unique.

Note, however, that a rimless coin should not be confused with a coin that has worn its rim off due to heavy use or damage. This can happen over time, especially with older coins or coins made of softer metals.
