U.S. Currency - Small Type

Small Size U.S. Currency - In 1928, the U.S. government reduced the size of our currency to its present-day size. These smaller-sized notes still comprise all Legal Tender, Silver Certificates, Gold Certificates, National Bank Notes, Federal Reserve Bank Notes and Federal Reserve Notes.

Unlike the large-size currency, there were limited designs, but there were more subtle variations that make this series very interesting to collect. Imprints for notes circulated in Hawaii during World War II, different color Treasury seals for notes in North Africa, and green, blue, gold and red seals make for interesting collecting. The small-size types also comprise the majority of high-denomination notes that are available today. $500, $1,000, and even the rare $5,000 and $10,000 notes are still available, but at significant premiums, especially the two largest denominations.

Accumulating a collection of each different type and denomination of small-size note is a very rewarding task. Another adjunct would be to collect all different notes from each Federal Reserve District of a certain type of denomination. Finally, there are also many different types of error notes as well as different types of serial numbers (low numbers, repeaters, radars, etc.) all for your collecting enjoyment.
