What are Silver certificates?
Silver certificates, issued by the U.S. between 1878 and 1964, are a type of representative currency based on the Silver standard. They were produced largely due to citizens' dissatisfaction with the Gold Standard. Silver certificates are particularly fascinating because they are at once obsolete and still legal tender in the U.S, as they are now only redeemable for Federal Reserve Notes.
